OnePlus 11R Review – Value Flagship with a Stellar Camera

The OnePlus 11R is the latest addition to the OnePlus family, and it aims to offer a flagship experience at a more affordable price. The phone has a lot of similarities with the OnePlus 11, but also some notable differences. In this review, we will take a closer look at the OnePlus 11R and see how it stacks up against its sibling and the competition.

Design and Display

The OnePlus 11R has a sleek and premium design that is almost identical to the OnePlus 11. The phone has a curved glass back with a matte finish that is resistant to fingerprints and smudges. The camera module is also similar, with three lenses arranged in a rectangular shape. The phone comes in two colors: Carbon Black and Lake Blue.

The front of the phone is dominated by a 6.74-inch Fluid AMOLED display with a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. The screen has a resolution of 1240×2772 pixels, which is slightly lower than the QHD+ resolution of the OnePlus 11.

However, the difference is not very noticeable in everyday use, and the screen still looks sharp and vibrant. The display also supports 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and peak brightness of 1450 nits, making it smooth, colorful, and bright.

The OnePlus 11R has an optical fingerprint sensor under the display, which works fast and reliably. The phone also has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, which deliver loud and clear sound. However, the phone lacks some features that are present on the OnePlus 11, such as wireless charging, IP rating, and an infrared port.

Performance and Battery

The OnePlus 11R is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which is based on the 4nm fabrication process and has an octa-core CPU with a maximum clock speed of 3.19 GHz. The phone also has up to 16GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is not the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm, but it still delivers excellent performance that can handle any task or game with ease. The phone also runs on OxygenOS 13 based on Android 13, which is one of the best custom skins in the market. OxygenOS is smooth, fast, and clutter-free, with useful features and customization options.

The OnePlus 11R has a large 5000mAh battery that can easily last for a full day of heavy usage. The phone also supports 100W wired charging with the included SUPERVOOC charger, which can charge the phone from zero to full in just about half an hour. However, as mentioned earlier, the phone does not support wireless charging or reverse wireless charging.

Cameras

The OnePlus 11R has a triple camera setup at the back, consisting of a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. The main camera is the same as the one on the OnePlus 11, and it uses a large Sony IMX766 sensor with multi-directional PDAF and OIS.

The main camera takes stunning photos in daylight and low-light conditions, with great details, colors, dynamic range, and contrast. The camera also supports HDR10+ video recording at up to 4K resolution at 60fps.

The ultra-wide camera has a 120-degree field of view and can capture decent shots with minimal distortion and good colors. However, it is not as good as the ultra-wide camera on the OnePlus 11, which has a higher resolution of 16MP and better optics.

The macro camera is also disappointing, as it has a low resolution of 2MP and produces blurry and noisy images. The phone does not have a telephoto camera either, so zooming in results in loss of quality.

The front-facing camera on the OnePlus 11R is a 16MP shooter that can take good selfies in daylight but struggles in low-light situations. The camera also supports HDR10+ video recording at up to 1080p resolution at 30fps.

Verdict

The OnePlus 11R is a great phone for OnePlus fans who want to get their hands on a fast phone with reliable cameras and a big battery without breaking the bank. The phone offers most of the features of the OnePlus 11 at a lower price point, making it a value flagship in its own right.

However, the phone also makes some compromises in terms of display resolution, wireless charging, IP rating, infrared port, ultra-wide camera quality, telephoto camera availability, and macro camera quality. If you are willing to overlook these shortcomings or pay extra for them, you might be better off with the OnePlus 11 or another flagship phone in the market.

But if you are looking for a solid performer with a stellar camera and a smooth software experience, the OnePlus 11R is a worthy choice.
